Prisjakt is pursuing a claim of approximately SEK 21.4 billion against Google at the Patent and Market Court in Stockholm. The claim concerns the damage Prisjakt considers it has suffered as a result of Google’s abuse of its dominant market position, an infringement of competition rules that the European Court of Justice has definitively established.
Prisjakt has operated for a long time in a market where Google holds a very strong position. Following a thorough analysis of how this has affected the company, Prisjakt has concluded that it is entitled to compensation for the damage incurred, and is therefore pursuing the matter legally.
“Prisjakt has long operated in a market where Google has a very strong position and where the EU Court of Justice has definitively established Google’s breach of competition rules. We have analysed how this has affected Prisjakt and consider that the company is entitled to compensation for the damage that has arisen. We are therefore now pursuing the matter legally,” says Peter Greberg, CEO of Prisjakt.
Prisjakt’s claim follows a ruling from the Patent and Market Court on 1 July this year in the case between Pricerunner – a former eEquity portfolio company, sold to Klarna in 2022 – and Google. The court found that Google’s abuse of its dominant position had continued even after a decision by the European Commission in 2017, and that this conduct had caused Pricerunner economic damage. The ruling has been appealed by both parties and has therefore not entered into legal force.
eEquity retains a share of any damages awarded in Pricerunner’s case.
