eEquity-backed Venture Design is continuing its successful growth journey by acquiring the weighted-blanket specialist Cura of Sweden. The acquisition, which followed an intense bidding process for the bankrupt company, further strengthens Venture Design’s position as a leading player in furniture and home décor.
The acquisition of Cura is the latest in a series of strategic expansions Venture Design has carried out with great success. Since Venture Design took ownership in Dangarden in October 2023, the company has grown by 200%, and Backyard Lifestyle, acquired last year, achieved 70% growth in 2024. Meanwhile, Venture Design itself has increased its organic growth by nearly 20% – and all these companies are profitable.
”Our model works. We acquire companies with strong synergies, integrate them effectively, and drive profitable growth. Cura is no exception – the company holds a strong position in a niche segment with high product margins, good brand recognition, and a prominent presence in the German market, where the majority of sales take place. We will scale these strengths and optimize to maximize profitability.” – Ola Johansson, Founder & CEO, Venture Design.
Cura, which generated nearly SEK 70 million in revenue in 2024, has the majority of its sales through its own e-commerce channel. Venture Design sees great potential in accelerating growth by offering Cura’s products to its B2B customers and views Cura’s assortment as an attractive addition to its existing offering. The focus will be on introducing Cura into Venture Design’s retail distribution network while optimizing logistics and strengthening key existing retailer relationships to drive growth and profitability.
”We have a strong focus on strategic and accretive add-ons to our portfolio companies during our holding period. Cura has been an interesting brand for a long time in a category with limited competition, and sleep health is a trend that is very much in demand right now. Magnus Pettersson’s work in turning the company profitable over the past three months is impressive. Acquiring Cura at an attractive valuation now makes for a strong start to the year.” – Magnus Wiberg, Partner, eEquity.
Venture Design continues to identify attractive acquisitions and create value through smart integration, robust business development, and efficient distribution. With Cura in the portfolio, the company further strengthens its position as a leading player in furniture and home furnishings. The goal is to reach SEK 1 billion in revenue within a few years.
